What happened

The institute presented the demonstrator as a possible route to automating existing special-purpose vehicles without rebuilding them around drive-by-wire systems. RWTH says the next project phase will put HAINZ in a real commercial vehicle for initial maneuvers on a test track.

Why it matters

The current evidence is a simulator demonstration, not physical driving, a road trial or a deployment. RWTH says commercially available humanoids do not yet meet the demanding requirements of robotic driving and reports no safety or performance metrics for real vehicles.
