MIT builds a robotic lab that assembles optics experiments

What happened
The arm identifies QR-coded housings, positions magnetic bases and uses cameras plus a wireless adjustment tool to refine alignment. In the reported demonstration, it completed 50 maneuvers in 30 minutes to construct a working laser cavity and restored alignment after researchers disturbed components.
Why it matters
Automating repetitive setup could make experiments more repeatable and remotely accessible. The evidence is a controlled laboratory demonstration; wider cloud access and operation across varied laboratories are future goals, not deployed services.
