What happened

The House Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee held a markup and forwarded the bill to the full Energy and Commerce Committee on a 12–11 vote. Its Foreign Affairs Committee referral remains listed.

What the bill proposes

The proposal would establish a federal framework for vehicles with Level 3–5 automated driving systems, including manufacturer safety cases, a national crash-data repository, reporting requirements, and federal-state authority boundaries.

The subcommittee vote advances committee consideration but does not enact the proposal. The bill has not passed the full Energy and Commerce Committee, the House, or the Senate.
