What happened

Introduced in the House and referred to the Committee on Armed Services.

What the bill proposes

The proposal would require human command responsibility for military uses of force involving autonomous or AI-enabled systems, including identified commanders or operators, human oversight for intentionally lethal decisions, and independent target verification during the first five years.

H.R. 9729 is an introduced bill, not enacted law. Its requirements would not apply to missile-defense and other automatic weapon-interception systems described in the text, and no new duty exists unless Congress enacts the measure.
