What happened

Introduced in the Senate, read twice, and referred to the Committee on Armed Services.

What the bill proposes

The proposal would require the Army to report by April 15, 2027 on efforts to produce, test and sustain autonomous maneuver systems and low-cost interceptors. It calls for information on domestic drone and counter-drone component supply chains, advanced manufacturing, test coordination and sustainment.

S. 5344 is an introduced bill, not enacted law. It would require a report rather than directly fund production or authorize a new autonomous system, and the reporting duty would arise only if the measure becomes law.
