What happened

Introduced April 20 and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce; the sponsor gave introductory remarks in the Congressional Record on April 21.

What the bill proposes

The proposal would prohibit manufacturing for sale, importing, selling, conveying, offering, or distributing any children's toy or child care article that incorporates an artificial-intelligence chatbot. It would treat a violation as a Consumer Product Safety Act violation.

This proposal is not law. Its prohibition would begin 180 days after enactment and would apply to the bill's defined children's toys, child care articles, and conversational AI chatbots—not every AI-enabled product.
