China seeks comment on industrial robot procurement standard
What happened
The October 30 draft defines the covered robots as fixed-base arms with at least three independently controlled joints. It proposes that components produced in China account for at least 70% of product cost, and identifies reducer machining, servo-motor insulation and circuit-board assembly as key domestic processes. The notice invites comments through November 13; the draft leaves the effective date blank and proposes a three-year transition after issuance.
Why it matters
The proposal could affect which industrial robots qualify as domestic products in Chinese government procurement, including purchases for research and teaching. It is a consultation draft, not a final or currently effective rule, and it sets procurement-origin criteria rather than measuring robot performance or safety.
