What happened

IFR's World Robotics 2026 service-robot release says global professional service-robot shipments rose 24% to almost 250,000 units. It also says most current humanoid applications remain specialized and often require human teleoperation, while safety standards, training and maintenance costs, and uncertain business cases continue to limit adoption.

Why it matters

The figure provides a global benchmark for evaluating large production and deployment claims from Chinese humanoid companies. IFR does not provide a China-only breakdown in this release, and a robot recorded as sold is not necessarily operating autonomously or delivering independently measured productivity.
